How to choose an under-sink organizer that fits
Measure your cabinet, pipes and door opening before buying. Compare organizer footprints and use a simple fit checklist for kitchen or bathroom storage.
An under-sink organizer needs to fit the clear space beside the plumbing, pass through the door opening and move with its contents loaded. Start with those measurements. The width printed on a cabinet is only part of the answer.
This guide compares manufacturer dimensions and explains a preliminary fit check. We have not physically tested these products. The diagrams are original planning illustrations, not photos of a completed installation. The source links are ordinary reference links.
Measure the usable space
Open both doors, if your cabinet has them, and look for the lowest and narrowest obstacles. A drain bend may leave plenty of floor space but less room for bottles above it. A hinge can make the opening narrower than the cabinet interior.
Record these measurements in the same unit:
- Clear zone widthThe space beside the pipes where the organizer will sit. Measure each side separately.
- Usable depthFrom the back obstacle to the inside of the closed door, including handles and door hardware.
- Clear heightFrom the cabinet floor to the lowest obstruction over your chosen zone.
- Door openingThe narrowest usable opening, including hinges and a center stile, if present.
- Loaded heightThe organizer with the items you actually want to store inside.
Also inspect the route out of the cabinet. A floor lip, pipe, valve or hinge can interrupt a pull-out movement even when the organizer fits at rest. Keep plumbing controls accessible. For a bathroom vanity, repeat the same checks; a shallow or low cabinet can change which shape is practical.
Choose the shape for your space
An open rolling bin is a candidate for a relatively narrow, deep clear zone. Check the handle and any hanging basket, then allow room to lift or tilt it as its instructions require. Tall bottles still need headroom during that motion.
A turntable needs a clear circular area and room for the loaded items to rotate. It does not solve a pipe conflict if a pipe sits inside that circle. Its depth and width should be checked together rather than treating it as a narrow rectangle.
A two-tier unit uses vertical space, but the overall height does not tell you what fits beneath the upper shelf. Check the lower compartment separately. If that dimension is unavailable, do not assume your tallest spray bottle fits there.
The most useful choice is the one whose footprint, loaded height and access route work in your cabinet. More shelves do not help if you cannot reach the items.
Compare three real footprints
These are examples of different constructions, not a ranking of tested winners. Prices below were displayed on the US brand pages when checked on October 9, 2026, before delivery or tax. Two pages said sold out; the third had ambiguous availability text. Check the current listing before treating any as a purchase option.
| Product | Width | Depth | Height | Check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| YouCopia RollOut 8″$29.99 · sold out at source check | 7.7 in | 16.4 in | 5.3 in | Depth increases with the basket. Allow room for the slight front lift used to roll it out.Front/back basket extends depth to 21.3 in. |
| YouCopia SinkSuite$24.99 · sold out at source check | 12 in | 12 in | 3.3 in | A clear 12-inch footprint plus room for loaded items to rotate. |
| Joseph Joseph CupboardStore 2-Tier$34.00 · availability unconfirmed | 7.9 in | 18.5 in | 13.2 in | Exact SKU 8500001; check the lower compartment height as well as overall dimensions. |
Dimensions checked October 9, 2026. Availability must be checked separately.
The Joseph Joseph page also supplies metric dimensions of W20 × D47 × H33.5 cm. Its inch figures are rounded. For a close fit, use a consistent unit and verify the actual product rather than relying on the rounding.
For the RollOut, the brand allows its basket to hang from a side. That changes the footprint, but the side-mounted width is not established here. The 21.3-inch figure is not a universal measurement for every basket position.
Try a preliminary fit check
The planning aid below compares the published footprints of the open bin and turntable with your clear zone. For height, it adds the overall organizer height to your tallest item’s height. That is conservative because an item may sit partly inside a bin.
Check the space you have
Enter the clear rectangular zone beside your pipes. All measurements are in inches. This checks dimensions, not installation or movement.
Check the worked examples below, or use this planning aid to compare your own measurements.
See the measurements in practice
These are hypothetical examples, not tested installations.
Example A: a narrow zone beside the drain
Imagine a clear zone 8.5 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 18 inches high. The door opening is 8 inches wide and your tallest bottle is 11 inches high.
The RollOut’s 7.7-inch width is below both width limits. Its 16.4-inch depth, without the basket, is below the 18-inch available depth. The conservative loaded height is 5.3 + 11 = 16.3 inches.
This passes only the preliminary static comparison. You still need clearance for the front lift and the entire path out. With the basket extending the depth to 21.3 inches, it exceeds the 18-inch zone: reject that arrangement.
Example B: a low, narrower cabinet
Imagine a clear zone 10 inches wide, 18 inches deep and 12 inches high. The 12-inch turntable exceeds the clear width. The two-tier unit exceeds both the depth and the overall height, even before you consider its contents.
Do not use a diagonal placement as a shortcut without checking the door opening, loaded footprint and movement. These examples show when to stop considering an arrangement; they do not predict how every cabinet will behave.
Before buying
Use the printable sheet to compare the exact size or SKU you found. Check the manufacturer’s assembly instructions, attachments, current seller, delivered cost and return terms. Verify any fasteners or mounting requirements for that particular model.
Leave working clearance. An exact match between the product and your opening is a reason for another check, not a confirmed fit. Finally, picture removing the organizer with bottles inside. If you cannot complete that movement or reach the plumbing, choose another arrangement.
The goal is simple: make a small set of measurements before the order, so the organizer you eventually choose has a plausible place to work.
